Building skills and confidence in reading, writing, college essays, and beyond.
Meeting students where they are and partnering with families to build confident readers, writers, and independent learners. With over 30 years of educational experience and a Master’s degree in Education, every session is designed to help students take their next step with confidence.
A little about my work beyond Parrish.
I founded Patchworks, an LLC that supports teachers and students in Tanzania. The same belief in education is what I bring to every session at home.
Patient, one-on-one tutoring in reading and writing.
I work at your student's pace on the reading and writing they need help with, in person in Parrish or online.
Who tutoring is for
Every student is welcome, especially:
- Young readers and writers building a strong foundation
- Students who need extra one-on-one attention
- Homeschool families looking for an experienced teaching partner
- Students who benefit from patient, one-on-one help
Areas of support
Each session is shaped around what your student needs most:
- Phonics, reading fluency, and reading comprehension
- Writing, grammar, and organizing ideas
- Study skills and homework support
- Handwriting practice
- Homeschool support and individualized instruction
What a session looks like
We start by talking about what your student is working on and what they want to improve.
I build each session around your student's current schoolwork, goals, and pace.
I guide your student with patient explanations, practice, and encouragement, without taking over.
I send weekly progress updates, with more formal updates whenever you want them.
Real progress, one session at a time.
Built for one student at a time
Every session is built for one student. There is no fixed script and no class to keep pace with. We focus on what will help most that day, whether that is working through a difficult concept, catching up, or getting ahead.
In person or online
Whatever works best for your family. I offer in-person sessions in the Parrish, Florida area and online sessions anywhere. Tutoring is $50 per hour.

Homeschool Support
A teaching partner for families learning at home, working alongside your curriculum in reading, writing, and study skills.

Tutoring questions
Have a question?
Tell me what your student is working on, and I will suggest where to begin.
Help with the college essay, start to finish.
I help students plan, write, and revise their college essays. We start with the experiences they already have, choose the strongest one, and shape it draft by draft while keeping track of deadlines. The writing stays theirs.
What we work on
- College planning and building a balanced list
- Organizing applications, materials, and deadlines
- Brainstorming essay ideas that sound like your student
- Drafting and revising, with your student keeping ownership of the writing
- Making decisions as offers come in
How the essay process works
The college essay is where a lot of students get stalled. We work through it together, from finding the real story to structure, drafting, and revision, until it sounds honest and like your student. I support, guide, and edit. I never write or rewrite the essay for them.
What's included
College Essay Package
$150totalIncludes 2 to 3 meetings by Zoom, phone, or in person:
- First ConversationWe meet, talk about where your student is in the process, and figure out their goals and next steps.
- Ideas and First EditsWe look at the draft, talk through ideas, and strengthen the story while keeping your student's voice.
- Final ReviewWe polish the final details: punctuation, grammar, and clarity.
When should students begin?
The best time to start is the spring of junior year. Starting early gives your student room to explore ideas without feeling rushed. Drafting and revision continue through the summer, and we finish polishing in the fall and winter of senior year as deadlines approach.

Write Your Best College Essay
A practical, encouraging guide for students and parents, built from the same approach I use in these sessions.
View the college essay guideWorking with Ms. Jones was an experience I feel privileged to have had. She was compassionate and incredibly supportive, whether she was answering my questions, editing my work, listening to the challenges I was facing, or joining a last-minute Zoom call when I needed help. Bottom line, she was always there.
What I loved most about working with Tiffany was that she never made me feel insecure about what I wrote. She gave me helpful, constructive feedback that allowed me to leave every meeting feeling confident and productive rather than defeated or unmotivated.
Thank you, Tiffany. I wouldn't have been able to do this without you.
College guidance questions

Hi, I'm Tiffany Jones.
I am a teacher and author with more than thirty years of experience helping students become stronger readers and writers.
My teaching background
For more than thirty years I have worked as a teacher, mentor, author, and publisher. I have taught readers and writers of many ages, and helped high school students through their college essays.
My approach
I do not lecture from the front of a room. I work one-on-one. I sit with a student, identify exactly where the difficulty is, and work through it with them until it is clear.
Where we work
I offer sessions in person in the Parrish, Florida area and online, so families can choose whatever fits best.
What I have learned from teaching
Thirty years of teaching have shown me that no two students struggle with the same thing. I listen first, then build each hour around the reading, writing, or assignment that is actually causing difficulty.
I have guided younger readers through phonics and fluency, helped middle schoolers organize their writing, and walked high school seniors through the college essay with my own guide in hand. Sessions stay calm and patient, and questions are always welcome, in person around Parrish or online.

Writing and service.
Outside of tutoring, I am a published author, and I founded Patchworks, an LLC that supports teachers and students in Tanzania. I climbed Kilimanjaro and, at the foot of the mountain, found a school in need of basic supplies and decided to help.
That work informs how I teach, but it stays in the background. Tutoring and college guidance are my main focus.

Write Your Best College Essay
A Practical, Engaging Guide for Students and Parents
I wrote this for the students and parents I could not meet with in person. It walks through finding a real story and shaping it into an essay that still sounds like you, using the same steps I use in our meetings.

Patchworks in Tanzania.
Patchworks is an LLC I founded to support teachers and students in Tanzania.
It began with a school in need of basic supplies and a decision to help. Patchworks supports teachers and students in Tanzania by providing and sustaining the resources they need to learn and grow.
This work matters a great deal to me, and it informs how I teach. It is part of my background, and it is included here so it can complement my tutoring and college guidance rather than overshadow them.
Want to help?
You can donate to Patchworks or learn more about the work.
Tell me what your student is working on.
Send me a few sentences about your student and where they need help: a reading assignment, a rough draft, or a subject they are finding difficult. I read every message myself and usually reply within a day or two.
